Will you be my Valentine?!
So it’s coming up to Valentine’s Day and everyone’s starting to talk about what they are going to where, where they are going on a date, or who to ask to be their Valentine. I’ve decided to come up with a simple look for a date that is pretty, classy, and easily adaptable to suit your make up collection.
Let’s start with a base.
I tend to go full coverage as it hides a number of sins and will make you look extra flawless for your date. I love the MAC studio sculpt foundation for this look as it’s not too thick on your skin and it lasts all day and night! It also creates a dewy complexion so you look like you have healthy skin. An extra tip is to also use a primer for extra stay put. A great drugstore foundation if you want to try one is the Rimmel 25 Hour lasting finish foundation which gives a more matte finish but the same full coverage.
I love to use concealer to brighten my skin – especially my under eye area. I would say this is a great idea for a first date as it highlights the beautiful features of your face delicately! The WOW concealer from seventeen is really good at giving a glow to your skin. The concealer is medium coverage but it’s natural shades balance your skin tone out to hide dark circles and blemishes. I tend to use this under my eyes, brows, on my chin and down the middle of my nose. – make sure you set it too with a loose powder if you own one!
Highlight and Contour
As it’s a special occasion and you want to look amazing for your date I’d recommend the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow sculpt and highlight palette. It is so beautiful and perfect for giving you the best cheekbones and highlight! Make sure you use a great brush to apply each powder (the contour range by real techniques is amazing!).
To learn how to get the best from this palette go over to CT YouTube channel and learn how she applies it to her models! It’s always best to learn from the creator of the product to get the best from it! A cheaper drugstore version is the collection Contour palette- Read Here. The sculpt shade is a matte brown shade which is great for fair to tan skin tones, the highlight is a gorgeous gold shimmer that will be picked up in the most dimly lit cosy corner of a restaurant!
Well it has to be Charlotte Tilbury cheek to chic blush in first love. I love this blusher it’s so pretty and I really love the flush it gives on your cheeks, the outer shade when blended with the sculpt shade from the Contour palette also makes a great eye shadow! I think blushes is essential for a Valentine’s make up look. You want to look flushed and youthful and blusher certainly aids this! Don’t use too much though otherwise you will look too hot and sweaty and your date might get distracted by your super rosy cheeks!
One of my favourite Mascara for volume and length is the Soap and Glory ‘Thick and Fast’ jet black mascara. A couple of coats of this on your lashes will make yourself look flirty and confident! It’s really easy to apply, for extra length use lash curlers first but it’s not an essential as this mascara really opens your eyes and makes them look super pretty! I would recommend a jet black Mascara as it adds more drama and intensity to your make up look. Perfect for a first date/ or day date! Your date won’t stop looking into your eyes after you apply it!
You have to make your lips are on point for any date never mind Valentine’s! Now is the time to prepare them with a good lip scrub – I’d recommend the popcorn one from Lush. Then you need a good lip balm – I love the Nivea coconut lip butter.
Make sure your lips are super soft and supple ready for your liner and lipstick so nothing goes patchy. I have chosen a dark mauve/nude pink for my Valentine’s lip. This shade is ‘Vanessa’ from NARS. It’s the perfect shade for a classy look instead of a baby bright pink, and it’s a bit different from your stereotypical Valentine’s red lip! I first like to line with MAC Soar lip liner to add definition and then colour my lips straight from the lip bullet. This shade is a satin finish from the ‘audacious’ collection which is perfect for me as it won’t go patchy when eating or drinking. I always take a compact mirror to reapply quickly at anytime of day or night and check that my teeth are lipstick free!
You can adapt and change this make up so much to suit you, go all out and add in a cat flick liner, or use Rose golds and browns to make a smokey eye. I love classy and simple make up with a big impact and I think this look definitely is that.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you have a lovely one with you and your loved one what ever you decide! If you don’t have a Valentine this year make sure you dedicate some time to yourself, get together with your mates and have a pamper night, order a takeaway and have fun! I had 18 years without a Valentine’s and I survived!
Love you lots,
