What cosmetics to take with you in an in-flight cabin bag!

I always get so confused and worried about what toiletries I can take on holiday. Recently I went to Rome for a city break holiday with my boyfriend. We decided to just take a standard in-flight cabin bag each to put in the over head locker. This is tricky when it comes to cosmetics – you can only take what fits in a little clear plastic seal bag – therefore here’s my guide of what you can and cant take with you!

When you go to any UK airport with just an in flight cabin bag you have to be able to fit your toiletries within a standard 20x20cm clear plastic bag which they check is sealed. Always pack this in the top of your case or bag as you have to get it out and pop it in a separate tray through security. You also have to make sure every liquid you are taking with you can fit into this bag, and that each liquid has a quantity of either 100ml or under – so much to remember right?!

The 20x20cm plastic bag – its actually so small!

You have to prioritise what you would like to take with you, I’d advise if you are going on a break for about a week buy your sun cream and shampoo/ shower gel from the airport as you are bound to use them up whilst you are away. If you are just going on a city break however mini toiletries are perfect – and who doesn’t love mini toiletries they are just so cute!  The toiletries I took were also for 2 people, so if you are travelling alone what I have included in this blog post to pack will be plenty!

Lets start with toiletries:

I feel like I take the essentials that I would need for a city break, plus a hand cream for a bit of extra luxury. Sometimes the hotel you stay in always provides a shampoo and shower gel but I’d rather just use my own – its totally your preference! This year I purchased all my toiletries from Wilko as they had a 3 for 2 offer on everything mini!

  • Toothpaste
  • Shower Gel
  • Conditioner
  • Moisturiser
  • Micellar Water – note Garnier’s  is an 125ml bottle so I used about half before I went on holiday!
  • Hand Cream
  • Shampoo
  • Sun cream

Make-up

Make-up is always a tricky one when you a trying to pack light. I find taking a small amount of make-up anywhere is extremely hard as I love so many products!. Therefore I had to get real and take a lot of power make up that I could keep in a separate bag in my case as you can take as much solid make up as you need. I took powder forms of eye shadow, blusher, highlighter and contour as I knew then I could take my favourite products and feel like me on holiday!

Remember – lipstick is classed as a liquid therefore it has to be packed in the liquids bag too! This was so hard for me as I seem to have at least 6 lipsticks and a lip gloss in my hand bag at any one time!! I chose a classic MAC lipstick in ‘peach blossom’ and a Tom Ford lipstick in the shade ‘FLYNN’. Mascara is also liquid so I decided to take my mini benefit Roller Lash mascara as it is one of my favourites but in mini! Foundation and concealer are obviously liquid therefore I took my favourite MAC studio sculpt foundation (only 40ml).

  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Lipstick
  • Mascara

Before you jet off see if you can fit all of your cosmetics into a small plastic bag – you don’t want that moment when security asks you to part with one of your products! My method is the cram technique – cram everything you can fit into the bag and get it to seal! haha! – Below is proof that I could fit all items into this little bag!

A sealed bag = a happy traveller without the anxiety of wondering what might be thrown away and knowing you can make yourself feel beautiful on holiday!

What are your top packing tips? I hope this post helps you when it comes to packing for your holidays! Are you off on holiday soon? Let me know in the comments or on my Twitter and Instagram where you are off too beaut! My next holiday is Portugal and I’m so excited!

Have a lovely Holiday!

Fun post! I’ve heard that the little pink Glossier bags also make great carry-on holders xx.
